Rolex is a watch manufacture, as its watches are made by the company itself, founded in 1905 (London), with headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) since 1919.
In 1910 a Rolex received the first official Swiss Chronometric Certificate to be awarded to a wristwatch. In 1914, the Kew Observatory in Great Britain awarded the Rolex wristwatch a Class-A certificate of high precision… until then, that distinction was reserved for the most reliable navy chronometers of the time. In 1926 he introduced the Oyster, the first water-resistant wristwatch. In 1945 he introduced the Datejust, the first chronometer with an automatic date mechanism.
The GMT-Master model was designed to show the time in two time zones simultaneously. Introduced in 1955, it was originally developed as a navigational instrument for professionals travelling the world. Successor to the original model, the GMT-Master II was introduced in 1982, with a new movement that ensured comfort of use. It has an additional hand that turns the dial in 24h, as well as a bidirectional rotating bezel with 24h graduation.
